Job Description – Highway Maintenance Technician I

 (Central Florida)

Responsibilities

  • Performs landscape maintenance duties, such as:
    • Mowing, weed eating, edging, and blowing
    • Herbicide application and weed control
    • Tree trimming and pruning
    • Litter, debris, and roadkill removal
    • Spring and Fall clean-up
    • Hurricane season preparation and post-storm clean-up
    • Cleans and grades stormwater and drainage ditches, road shoulders, and slopes
  • Performs general maintenance repair and installation functions related to:
    • Fences and boundaries
    • Signage (speed limit / exit ramp / yield, etc.)
    • Guardrails and attenuators
    • Potholes and asphalt 
    • Concrete and sidewalks
    • Graffiti removal
    • Pressure washing
    • Lighting (overhead traffic lights and signage illumination)
    • Bridge and overpass structures
  • Performs Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
    • Temporary traffic control to support first responders and accident victims with lane closures/flagging
    • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and work site inspections
    • Performs maintenance on company vehicles or equipment
    • Drives company trucks, towing trailers and rolling arrow boards
    • Logs maintenance work-order information and checklists manually and electronically
    • Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools, and material
    • Uses all equipment safely
    • Performs other duties as required

Requirements

  • 18+ years of age
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to effectively communicate with managers and coworkers in English (No Diploma/GED required)
  • Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and/or highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed
  • Ability to adhere to on-call schedule as necessary
  • Obtain MOT certificate (coursework and certification paid for by LBS)
  • Must be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record), and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • CDL
  • MOT Certification
  • Agricultural Pesticide Applicator’s License
  • Ability to drive manual transmission
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • 1+ year of experience working in roadway operations or relatable field, such as construction, utilities, landscaping, etc.
