Job Description – Highway Maintenance Technician I
(Central Florida)
Responsibilities
- Performs landscape maintenance duties, such as:
- Mowing, weed eating, edging, and blowing
- Herbicide application and weed control
- Tree trimming and pruning
- Litter, debris, and roadkill removal
- Spring and Fall clean-up
- Hurricane season preparation and post-storm clean-up
- Cleans and grades stormwater and drainage ditches, road shoulders, and slopes
- Performs general maintenance repair and installation functions related to:
- Fences and boundaries
- Signage (speed limit / exit ramp / yield, etc.)
- Guardrails and attenuators
- Potholes and asphalt
- Concrete and sidewalks
- Graffiti removal
- Pressure washing
- Lighting (overhead traffic lights and signage illumination)
- Bridge and overpass structures
- Performs Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
- Temporary traffic control to support first responders and accident victims with lane closures/flagging
- Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and work site inspections
- Performs maintenance on company vehicles or equipment
- Drives company trucks, towing trailers and rolling arrow boards
- Logs maintenance work-order information and checklists manually and electronically
- Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools, and material
- Uses all equipment safely
- Performs other duties as required
Requirements
- 18+ years of age
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly
- Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to effectively communicate with managers and coworkers in English (No Diploma/GED required)
- Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and/or highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed
- Ability to adhere to on-call schedule as necessary
- Obtain MOT certificate (coursework and certification paid for by LBS)
- Must be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date
- Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record), and drug screen
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL
- MOT Certification
- Agricultural Pesticide Applicator’s License
- Ability to drive manual transmission
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- 1+ year of experience working in roadway operations or relatable field, such as construction, utilities, landscaping, etc.
